MANILA, Philippines — Authorities received 7 bomb threats on Tuesday, just days after the blast that killed four people and injured 50 people at the Mindanao State University (MSU) gym in Marawi City, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said most threats were from Metro Manila and one was in Laguna.
“Sa seven bomb threats, six po sa Manila, one sa Region 4A (Calabarzon) sa Pangil Elementary School sa Laguna,” Fajardo said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
She added that all six government offices, particularly in the Department of Budget and Management and the National Museum, were cleared of any hazardous explosive materials.
The threats came from a particular Japanese lawyer called Takahiro Karasawa, who claimed to have planted “high-performance bombs in public buildings in the city of Manila” that would explode around 3:34 p.m.
Fajardo then warned the public against sharing fake information, whether on social media or via e-mail, saying that anyone caught spreading these messages would face imprisonment of not less than five years and a fine of not less than P40,000.
