PH’s top security execs brief senators on Marawi bombing
MANILA, Philippines — Top security officials on Wednesday met behind closed doors with senators to brief the upper chamber about the December 3 Marawi bombing that left four people dead.
Among those who came to the Senate for an executive session with the lawmakers include Defense Sec. Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen Romeo Brawner Jr., Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr, and National Security Adviser Año.
Present on the part of the Senate are Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda, Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, and Senators Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Risa Hontiveros and JV Ejercito.
Zubiri suggested the briefing during Monday’s session after he and other senators strongly condemned the bombing of the Dimaporo Gym inside the Mindanao State University campus in Marawi City.
Aside from the four fatalities, at least 50 persons were also reported injured in the incident.
