Woman arrested at Naia for P67 million shabu package

MANILA, Philippines — A woman was arrested after claiming a parcel containing over P67 million worth of suspected methamphetamine or “shabu” at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City on Tuesday evening.

In a report on Wednesday, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) identified the 40-year-old suspect as Gayzel Sabile, who was collared during an interdiction operation at the airport complex around 7:10 p.m.

PDEA said Sabile’s arrest came after its operatives, along with the Naia-Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, discovered a parcel containing 9,898 grams of shabu amounting to P67,306,400 at the airport’s Pair-Pags Center.

It added that the parcel labeled “spare parts” was addressed to Sabile and came from an unnamed sender in Maputo, Mozambique, in East Africa.

Sabile will be facing charges for violations of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002.
