Man loses life over P200
A 42-year-old driver probably never thought that the P200 he had lent out would cost him his life. Abelardo Viray Jr., a resident of Topacio Street in San Andres Bukid, Manila, was shot dead shortly after midnight Thursday by tricycle driver Marvin Lagbunan after he tried to collect the money the latter owed him. Lagbunan, however, was arrested immediately after the killing. SPO2 Glenzor Vallejo of the Manila Police District homicide section said the victim was shot dead around 12:30 a.m. in front of Lagbunan’s house on Crisolita Street in San Andres Bukid. Lagbunan was drinking with friends when the victim accosted him over the P200 he owed. Lagbunan, however, refused to pay, leading to an argument and a scuffle. Lagbunan then got hold of a sumpak (homemade gun) and shot the victim, killing him. He later told reporters that he had borrowed the money from the victim’s wife and he had only asked that he be given more time to pay up. The victim, however, refused, leading to the argument. Carpenter dies in fall
A carpenter fell to his death from the third floor of a house he was working Wednesday in Quezon City. PO3 Jogene Hernandez of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit identified the fatality as Fernando Galapon, a resident of Project 4. According to a witness, Robert Pablo, the victim fell after he slipped on a pile of coco lumber on the top floor of the three-story house he was working on in the Escopa 3 area. Pablo, the victim’s coworker, said they took Galapon to East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival. The police said that based on hospital records, the victim suffered head injuries and a fractured left leg. He added that the victim’s body was brought to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for autopsy. “It’s standard procedure.
