MANILA, Philippines — Trade and Industry Secretary Fred Pascual inspection establishments selling various Christmas holiday season items in Divisoria, Manila on Wednesday.
“The monitoring activity we had is just a part of the wider efforts of the DTI monitoring teams to go out every day to inspect prices and appropriately act on violators. Our primary goal is to ensure a wide range of quality and reasonably-priced products for Filipino families during Noche Buena,” Pascual said.
On November 21, the DTI released a price guide for Noche Buena items, with which Pascual compared and verified with actual market prices.
The DTI chief also warned that retailers with large price differences from the release guide will be reported to the manufacturers, who may cease transactions with them.
During the inspection, 235 uncertified and unbranded Christmas lights were confiscated, and four sellers were issued Notices of Violation requiring a written explanation within 48 hours.
“The Department will continue to intensify its monitoring and enforcement operations, particularly during the Holiday season. We urge consumers to be vigilant and seek legitimate Philippine Standard Marks and Import Commodity Clearance when purchasing Christmas lights to ensure the safety of your family this holiday season,” Pascual added.
The DTI also told consumers to report retailers who sell basic necessities above suggested retail prices, or those who sell uncertified items through its hotline at 1-384, or its email at consumercare@dti.gov.ph.
