Solon asks law enforcers: Stop outdated probe methods, use modern evidence gathering
MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives will “immediately sit down” with the Executive Department for the reintegration of the amnestied rebel returnees, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said on Saturday.
According to Romualdez, the move is to give former members of rebel groups the opportunity to become productive Filipino citizens.
For their successful reintegration, he highlighted the need for comprehensive programs focusing on jobs, livelihood, education, and healthcare.
“In unity, there is strength; in peace, there’s a future. The House of Representatives stands resolute in supporting measures that foster peace and propel our nation towards unparalleled growth,” he said in a statement.
Romualdez also expressed support for the administration’s peace initiative.
He noted that the move of granting amnesties to members of different rebel groups was done under the Duterte administration, and was further sustained by President Fedinand Marcos Jr.
According to the Speaker, the continuity underscores a “unified vision for peace across different administrations.” For him, the amnesty programs are pivotal steps toward the country’s economic and social development.
“Peace is the bedrock upon which we build a nation’s dreams. It is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of justice and inclusivity,” Romualdez said.
“By integrating former rebels back into the societal fabric, we are weaving a stronger, more resilient Philippines,” he added.
The Speaker likewise emphasized the correlation between peace and development.
“Every step towards peace is a leap towards development. As we heal past divisions, we unlock the full potential of our nation, ensuring that development reaches every corner of our archipelago,” he said.
In Proclamations released to the media on Friday, Marcos granted amnesty to former members of several rebel groups, including the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front.
