MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led a “situation briefing” via teleconference in Tacloban as continuous rains and floodings hound Northern Samar and several other provinces.

The conference was held Thursday as severe flooding hit Samar and Panay islands, affecting at least 318,000 people. The flooding was triggered by the combined effects of two weather systems – a low-pressure area (LPA) and a shear line.

“Situation briefing via Zoom in Tacloban on the combined effects of a shear line and LPA in Northern Samar,” Marcos’ Facebook story caption reads.

Present in the meeting were Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalin, and other government officials.

Northern Samar has been placed under a state of calamity due to widespread flooding. A 15-day price freeze for household Liquefied Petroleum Gas and kerosene products was also declared in the province.
