DFA confirms 17 Filipino seafarers held hostage by Houthi rebels in Red Sea

Several Filipino crew members of Galaxy Leader cargo ship in the Red Sea were among those held hostage last Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed to INQUIRER.net.

DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said 17 Filipinos were seized when Houthi armed group hijacked Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea.

Another transport group will stage a three-day strike starting today amid the looming Dec. 31 deadline for public utility vehicles (PUVs) to consolidate into cooperatives or corporations as part of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

In a press conference on Tuesday, Manibela president Mar Valbuena said their members around the country were expected to join the strike from Nov. 22 to 24.
