Newly sworn-in Zamboanga del Norte-1st district Rep. Roberto “Pinpin” Uy, Jr. wastes no time to begin legislative duties after his legal battle with Romeo Jalosjos, Jr. (R. Jalosjos) robbed him of nearly half his term.
The solon is focused on addressing the challenges of his district, bringing it back to its old glory through Uy’s long-standing legacy of good governance and result-oriented, people-centered leadership.
“We cannot take back the time we lost, but I am adamant in maximizing the remaining year and a half of this Congress to advancing policies that will improve the lives of the people of Zamboanga del Norte,” Uy said.
Uy had just been sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives when he took oath during Monday’s plenary session, administered by Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
This followed the Commission on Election’s (COMELEC) official proclamation of his electoral win against R. Jalosjos after the Supreme Court upheld the fairness and legitimacy of his victory in the 2022 elections against groundless accusations.
Uy garnered the highest votes during the May 2022 elections with 69,591, defeating incumbent R. Jalosjos, who received only 69,109 votes. The other candidates Frederico Jalosjos (F. Jalosjos) and Richard Amazon received 5,424 and 288 votes, respectively.
His proclamation was erroneously suspended pending a case, arising from the Provincial Board of Canvassers’ (PBOC) move to declare R. Jalosjos as the winning candidate after the votes of F. Jalosjos, who was declared a nuisance candidate, were credited to him. This brought his votes up to roughly 75,0000.
The High Court ruled that the suspension order was issued based on R. Jalosjos’ bare allegations, and in effect, declared that F. Jalosjos is not a nuisance candidate, affirming Uy’s electoral win.
During his term as mayor of Polanco, Uy spearheaded municipal development projects in the areas of livelihoods, education, sports, and infrastructure.
