LTO impounds 41 unregistered motorcycles in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines – At least 41 motorcycle drivers have been apprehended since the start of the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) strict implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy on Monday, November 20, the agency announced on Tuesday.

“All the apprehended drivers were issued with citation tickets and all the motorcycles with no registration were impounded,” LTO enforcers said in a media release.

All of those apprehended were from Metro Manila, but LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said that vehicle owners could expect aggressive operations to be carried out nationwide.

“Napakaraming motorsiklo ang hindi rehistrado at batay sa ating record, marami sa mga ito ay hindi nakarehistro ng isa hanggang limang taon.  Hindi natin papayagan ito at makakaasa ang ating mga kababayan na gagawa tayo ng mga aksyon upang mapilitan ang mga may-ari nito na magparehistro,” Mendoza said.

(Many motorcycles are unregistered and based on our records, many of them have not been registered for one to five years. We will not allow this, and the public can expect that we will take action to compel the owners to register them.)

Meanwhile, the LTO-Law Enforcement Section (LES) said that they have started deploying enforcers in areas where motorcycles commonly travel, such as along Katipunan Avenue and Aurora Boulevard.

“The operation we conducted in Metro Manila should serve as a warning to all delinquent motor vehicle owners to register them in the soonest possible time,” Mendoza advised.

“Do not wait until you get caught because you’ll face even worse problems,” Mendoza added in Filipino.
