Friday is ‘Catch-Up Day’ for students’ reading skills – VP Sara

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Tuesday announced Fridays will be called “catch-up days.”
She said the initiative will go on throughout the term of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos.
The Vice President emphasized the need for a day dedicated to catching up on reading skills. On this day, kids will study nothing else but subjects that enhance their reading skills.
“Starting January 12, 2024, every Friday will be catch-up day, Fridays, particularly for reading,” she said.
She made the statement in her speech at the celebration of the 2023 Pambansang Buwan ng Pagbasa (National Reading Month) at the Esteban Abada Elementary School in Quezon City.
Duterte admitted the Program for International Student Assessment results are coming up, and she is not expecting good results for Filipino students.
“We don’t expect it, na maganda yung resulta sa darating na Disyembre,” said Duterte.
