Magnitude 4.9 earthquake jolts Glan, Sarangani

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said Friday that it extended P3 million worth of organic fertilizers, farm machinery, and equipment to agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Sarangani province.

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck the municipality of Glan, Sarangani, on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to the agency, the tectonic quake is an aftershock of the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that rocked Davao Occidental on Friday, November 17.

Glan is still recovering from the impacts of the quake on Friday, which was felt in six regions in Mindanao – Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos), Caraga, Davao, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao.

In a progress report released by the Sarangani Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) on Monday, Glan reported four confirmed deaths and 61 individuals who suffered injuries from the earthquake that occurred on Friday.

Sarangani PDRRMO’s report also said that in Glan alone, Friday’s earthquake damaged a total of 256 houses, consequently affecting a total of 1,256 households.

As of Tuesday morning, November 21, the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council has recorded 9 reported deaths due to the magnitude 6.8 earthquake.
