MANILA, Philippines – The first day of what will be a three-day transport strike has been relatively peaceful, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said on Monday.
Referring to a report from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Fajardo mentioned that as of 1 p.m. on November 20, there have been “no untoward incidents” involving protesters in the National Capital Region (NCR).
She also noted that they have observed nearly 600 protesters from various parts of the NCR participating in the transport strike.

Furthermore, Fajardo emphasized that transportation in the region was not “paralyzed.”

The PNP spokesperson made the pronouncement despite Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) national president Mody Floranda’s claim that their group’s transport strike affected over 85 percent of routes in the region.
Floranda also said that Piston will have a dialogue with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s chair Teofilo Guadiz on Tuesday to air their concerns.
Piston is holding a strike to protest the consolidation of traditional jeepneys as part of the jeepney modernization program.
