Women’s group in Bogo attends gender seminar
THE Department of Agrarian Cebu Provincial Office (DARPO) has pursued the Gender and Development (GAD) information campaign and GAD advocacy campaign through the conduct of seminars and workshops for the agrarian reform beneficiaries to develop deeper understanding of gender issues.
As part of the campaign, the DARPO Cebu continues to conduct an orientation seminar on gender mainstreaming in the agrarian reform community areas.
Over 55 participants comprising members of the Anonang Norte Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association in Bogo town, northern Cebu, participated in the orientation seminar held last April 19. Barangay Anonang Norte is an agrarian reform community.
Municipal agrarian reform officer Nemia Lacson spearheaded the activity and discussed the topics on the evolution of gender paradigm and perspectives.
DARPO Cebu Chief Agrarian Reform Program officer for administration Andrea Paciana Labra, D.M., was the main resource speaker. She discussed the implementation of the legal basis of GAD and the process in mainstreaming gender in ARB organization.
During the workshop seminar, the women’s group in Anonang Norte was organized and named Anonang Norte Women’s Association (ANWA).
After the seminar, the ANWA officers were elected, namely, barangay captain Josefina Balais, president; Ann Jie Oporto, vice president; Chery Amoro, secretary; Marivic Arcillas, treasurer; Jessie Tillor, auditor; Melodina Mediana and Rasel Neri, public relations officers.
Among others who facilitated the conduct of seminar-workshop were Bogo DAR Municipal Office Development Facilitator Florida Rosell, DARPO GAD secretariats admin staff Sheryl Canceran, and provincial information officer engineer Rosanna Gay Visitacion.
The women’s group is required to present their plan that would include the government’s Disaster Risks Reduction (DRR) program, livelihood-income generating projects, trainings and seminars and other activities such as community development and field trips.
