Flooding prompts evacuation of 137 people in Masbate

LEGAZPI CITY — At least 45 families, or 137 people, were evacuated in Uson town in Masbate province due to the swelling of the river caused by continuous rains since Nov. 18.

The Uson municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO) reported that they started the evacuation of residents from Purok 1 to 7 of Barangay Magsaysay, which was submerged in a waist-deep flood, at around 10 a.m.

Adonis Dilao, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said the overflow of the river affected these areas and the neighboring villages of Buenavista and Mabini.
