MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) warns the public against bogus VaxCertPH accounts in social media that dupe netizens into paying “registration fees” online.
In a public advisory issued over the weekend, the DOH said the latest health-related scam offers fake digital COVID-19 vaccine certificates for a fee.
“The DOH warns the public against fake accounts that imitate VaxCertPH and ask for registration charges,” the advisory said.
“The department reminds everyone to be very cautious when following accounts that resemble or imitate national government officials or health personalities,” it added.
Certificates are free
Official digital vaccination certificates for Filipinos and non-Filipinos vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Philippines are issued for free, the DOH stressed.
“The DOH continues to call on the public to source information only from legitimate sources and platforms, such as the health department,” it stressed.
VaxCertPH certificates used to be required for international and domestic travel during the pandemic.
However, since August this year, travelers were no longer required to present their COVID-19 vaccination certificates to enter the Philippines.
