Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte expressed her deepest condolences to families who lost their loved ones during the magnitude 6.8 earthquake off Sarangani, Davao Occidental, last November 17.

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte expressed her deepest condolences to families who lost their loved ones when the magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Sarangani, Davao Occidental, last November 17.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Duterte said she visited a funeral in the area where the remains of a mother and her child currently rests.

“Pinuntahan ko ang Ladera Funeral Homes dito sa Glan, Saranggani upang bisitahin ang mga labi ng mag-inang namatay dahil sa landslide na nangyari sa kanilang tahanan sa Barangay Mudan, Province of Sarangani,” she said.

She likewise checked the condition of two injured individuals recovering at the Saranggani Provincial Hospital.

Duterte also extended the condolences of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to affected families as the country’s caretaker.

Marcos is in the United States for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

He is currently in Hawaii visiting the Filipino community and his old friends in the state, whom he said were “the people that kept them alive for six years” since 1986 after his father, late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., was ousted from power in Malacañang.
