MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Martin Romualdez called the arrest of a man suspected of large-scale onion smuggling a “milestone” for the government’s fight against smuggling and hoarding of agricultural products.
In a statement on Sunday, Romualdez also attributed the arrest of Jayson de Roxas Taculog to the peroper coordination of the police, courts, and local governments.
“The arrest of Taculog is a significant milestone, but we will not stop here. The House remains steadfast in its duty to protect our nation’s food security and the interests of our farmers and consumers,” Romualdez said.
