MANILA, Philippines — Some parts of the country will have unfavorable weather conditions on Sunday brought by the low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility and shear line, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will be experienced over Masbate, Sorsogon, Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Davao Region due to the combined effects of the LPA’s trough or extension and shear line, or the convergence of cool and warm winds.

The state weather bureau warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains in these areas.

According to Pagasa, the LPA was spotted 465 kilometers east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, as of 3 a.m.

“Nananatiling maliit ‘yung tiyansa ng nasabing LPA na maging isang ganap na bagyo sa mga susunod na araw,” said state weather specialist Daniel James Villamil.

(The chance for the said LPA to become a full storm in the next few days remains small.)

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as habagat, will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, the rest of Bicol Region, and Apayao.

The same weather system will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said.

On the other hand, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms are forecast over the rest of Mindanao.

Pagasa said that a gale warning alert is still in effect over the seaboards of the following provinces:

  • Batanes
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
