FILIPINO billiards icon Francisco “Django” Bustamante once again reached the zenith of world billiards after topping the 2012 West Coast Challenge held over the weekend at the California Billiard Club in Mountain View, California.
Bustamante, playing under the banner of Puyat Sports, clustered six straight racks to beat Raj Hundal of India, 8-4, in the finals and capture his second consecutive title in the 10-Ball event over the weekend.
Sportsman/businessman Aristeo “Putch” Puyat hailed Bustamante’s victory, saying “Once again, our flag has been raised in this foreign land.”
With the feat, the Tarlac City cue master won the top purse worth $5,200 to raise his total money earnings to $8,200 after ruling the One Pocket event last April 25.
In the One Pocket final, Bustamante downed John Schmidt of the USA, 4-2 to pocket $3,000.
Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica of Murphy, Quezon City wound up tied at 7th-8th place with Corey Deuel of the USA in the 10-Ball event to receive $700 while Santos “The Saint” Sambajon finished in 9th to 12th place for $500. /Correspondent Marlon Bernardino
