Quezon towns suspend classes due to bad weather

LUCENA CITY — The local governments of Calauag and Guinayangan towns in Quezon province suspended in-person classes in public and private schools on Wednesday, Nov. 15, due to bad weather.

“As a precaution to our students due to the impact of continued bad weather including heavy rain caused by the shear line, classes from pre-school/kindergarten to Grade 12 senior high school are canceled in public and private schools starting at 12:00 noon today, Wednesday, November 15, 2023,” Calauag Mayor Rosalina Visorde announced on her Facebook around 11:30 a.m.

She advised her constituents to be prepared, alert, and cautious at all times.

The Public Information Office of Guinayangan town also announced the suspension of classes in public and private schools from pre-elementary, high school, and tertiary levels effective noon.

The announcement was also posted on its Facebook page.

Calauag, a coastal town facing Lamon Bay and Guinayangan off Ragay Gulf, are located in the province’s 4th district.

The provincial disaster risk reduction management office (PDRRMO) in an advisory issued at 11 a.m. said moderate to heavy rain with thunder and strong winds is being experienced in Calauag, General Nakar, Panukulan, Real, Mauban, Perez, Alabat, Tagkawayan, Lopez, Sampaloc, Lucban towns, and Tayabas City, and which may persist for up to two hours.

The advisory also warned that the bad weather could affect neighboring towns.

“Everyone is advised to take extra precautions against the dangers of flash floods and landslides,” the PDRRMO said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its Wednesday 4 a.m. bulletin, said Metro Manila, Bicol, and Calabarzon region, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar may experience possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
