LUCENA CITY — A woman motorcycle back-rider died while the driver was injured on Tuesday when their vehicle was hit by a cargo truck along the Maharlika Highway in Calauag town in Quezon province.
Quezon police reported on Wednesday, Nov. 15, that motorcyclist “Kristian,” 31, with his back-rider wife, “Judy Ann,” 26, and son, “Ian Avance” was negotiating a section of the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Binutas at 3:20 p.m.
The motorcyclist slowed down due to ongoing road construction but was bumped from behind by a truck driven by Maycael Mabilangan.
Judy Ann was thrown off the motorcycle, landed on the pavement, and suffered serious injuries.
The couple were taken to the nearest hospital, but the woman died on the way. Their son was unharmed.
The wayward truck subsequently crashed into a parked motorcycle and a residential house.
Initial investigation showed that the truck had a brake failure due to the slippery road caused by the rain, police said.
The police are conducting further investigation.
The victim was the third fatality of a motorcycle-related mishap in Quezon this November.
The police recorded that five motorcyclists died last month, nine in September, and 14 in August in road mishaps in the province.
