Nov. 15 declared 'special non-working holiday' in Mindoro provinces

CITY OF CALAPAN – Locals in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro will spend Wednesday, November 15, as a “special non-working” holiday to observe the 73rd founding anniversary of the provinces in accordance with Proclamation 373 issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of the President.

The celebration in Oriental Mindoro is dubbed “Fiesta MaHalTa Na” (for Mangyan, Halcon, Tamaraw and Naujan Lake found in the province). The events started on Monday, November 13, and will end on Wednesday with a street party, concert, and fireworks display at the provincial capitol grounds.

Six local bands will play on different stages around the capitol before guest band Ben & Ben’s performance at the capitol grounds.

In Occidental Mindoro, the celebration, dubbed “Arawatan Festival,” started on October 31 and will also end on Wednesday.

Among the events in Occidental Mindoro were the Tuna’s Biggest Catch Challenge, the yellowfin tuna cutting demonstration, and the formation of a tuna alliance in the province which featured the abundance of fish in the waters around Mindoro Island.

The Tinig, Galaw at Talentong (TGT) Mindoreño Season 3 and a variety show with guest performers will also be held on Wednesday.
