MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) shut down an unlicensed consultancy firm in Manila on Monday.
According to the DMW, Double D Training Consultancy Services (DDTC) was unlicensed and unauthorized by the department to recruit Filipino seafarers.
“Itong si DDTC wala silang lisensya kaya wala silang karapatan na mag-hire o mag-deploy ng seafarers sa abroad,” DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Cacdac said.
(DDTC has no license, so they do not have the right to hire or deploy seafarers abroad.)

Members of the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB) and Manila police have also sealed off DDTC’s office in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Cacdac also told the public to be wary of firms that promise or offer work opportunities overseas and to check the official website of the DMW for licensed agencies.
“To our kababayans, especially those who want to work overseas, do not deal with consultancy firms that offer to get you jobs abroad. Always check the DMW website for the list of licensed agencies and approved job orders,” he added.
According to the surveillance operations of the MWPB, DDTC charged a processing fee of P80,000 for seafarer applicants
DDTC will also be included in the DMW’s “List of Persons and Establishments with Derogatory Record” and will face charges of illegal recruitment.
