Comelec proclaimed Uy as winner of the congressional race for the said district, after a long legal battle against Romeo Jalosjos, Jr.

This came after the Supreme Court (SC) ruled in favor of Uy, as the high tribunal voided Jalosjos’ proclamation as Zamboanga 1st District representative.

According to Comelec data, Uy got the highest votes during the May 2022 elections with 69,591, while Jalosjos Jr. received 69,109 votes.

The legal battle, however, stemmed from the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) move to declare Romeo Jalosjos as the winning candidate after the votes of Federico Jalosjos, who was declared a nuisance candidate, were credited to the former.
