MANILA, Philippines — One of the social media accounts of House Speaker Martin Romualdez was subjected to unauthorized access by unidentified persons.

Romualdez made this known through a statement on Monday.

“I was informed by the communications team of the Office of the Speaker that my official social media accounts have recently been subjected to unauthorized access by unknown individuals,” he said.

“We are taking this matter very seriously and are currently working with the relevant authorities to investigate this breach,” he added.

It is not clear what types of information were made known to the hackers.

Romualdez’s staff members said it happened on the Speaker’s Facebook page.

The unauthorized access over Romualdez’s social media account came just weeks after the website of the House of Representatives was defaced by hackers who identified themselves as ~3MUSKETEERZ.

A troll face was placed on the homepage, particularly on the site’s section dedicated to photo journals.

The hackers urged the legislative chamber to fix its website.

According to Secretary General Reginald Velasco, the hackers’ intent in defacing the House website was probably to test the cyber security of the chamber.

He noted it did not appear to be politically motivated.
