House shuts down network after office hours

/ 05:12 AM November 10, 2023

More than a month after its website was defaced by hackers, the House of Representatives has continued to tighten its network security measures by enforcing a shutdown and disconnection of all electronic equipment after office hours.

Speaker Martin Romualdez has created a “cybersecurity committee,” which will review the House’s cybersecurity and network security protocols to prevent a repeat of the Oct. 14 defacement of the House website.

The cybersecurity committee is led by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, who issued a computer shutdown policy in the lower chamber’s offices last Nov. 6. —JULIE M. AURELIO
