Senate defers consideration of 2024 PNP budget

MANILA, Philippines — Senators on Thursday evening deferred the consideration of the proposed 2024 budget of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III raised the recommendation on the second day of the chamber’s marathon plenary deliberations on the proposed P5.768 trillion allocation for 2024.

“I move that we defer the consideration of the budget for the PNP. Just give them time to familiarize themselves with the budget, study it well and then come back at a certain date. We will tell them when,” said Pimentel.

With no objection to the motion of the minority leader, the Senate deferred the consideration of the said budget.

Later in the hearing, the budget for Department of the Interior and Local Government’s Office of the Secretary hurdled the Senate plenary.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said the budget is now “deemed submitted” for consideration.
