MANILA, Philippines — Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez, spokesperson of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said that over P59 million have been disbursed so far for the department’s “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program.”

In a media forum on Thursday, Lopez said that from this amount, around 50,000 Grade 2 non-reader students, 50,000 parents and guardians, and more than 6,000 student tutors have benefited.

The “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program” is the DSWD’s reformatted educational assistance program that has been running for six months now.

“Talagang mga coordinators, mga non-teaching personnel ang katuwang natin dito,” he added.
