Bongbong Marcos: LGUs need to acquire disaster relief technology, gear
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said that disaster relief equipment and technologies should be more available to local government units (LGUs).
At the launch of the “Handa Pilipinas” Visayas Leg in Tacloban City, Marcos lauded the different innovative technologies for disaster response equipment at the fair. He said that there was a market for these technologies.
“Madali naman ipaliwanag na may ready market, ang LGU, may ready market ang lahat ng mga produkto na ito para sa ating mga LGU kaya kailangan pagpatuloy natin ang pag-develop, hindi lang yung teknolohiya, kung hindi ang pagpababa ng presyo ng ating produkto at pagparami ng mga available sa lahat ng mga LGU para magamit sa pagtulong sa mga tao pagka may pangangailangan,” Marcos said in his speech.
(It is easy to explain to them that there is a ready market, the LGU, there is a ready market for these products. LGUs, that is why we need to keep developing, not just the technology, but lowering the product prices and making more available to all LGUs so it can be used to help people in need.)
Marcos lauded innovations such as mobile command posts, triage trailer tents, collapsible toilets, upgraded emergency systems, and more.
According to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), there were 60 new technologies on display at the fair.
“The government remains committed to advancing the country’s disaster resilience, and of course, we must recognize the role of the Department of Science and Technology in this undertaking. The DOST has been instrumental in developing cutting-edge technology for disaster risk reduction, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery,” said Marcos.
