9 detainees bolt Tondo jail; 6 recaptured
MANILA, Philippines — Nine detainees escaped from the custodial facility of Manila Police District’s Station 1 in Tondo, Manila, on Wednesday morning.
In a report, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said the nine detainees under police custody broke out of the facility at around 1:30 a.m.
The NCRPO did not disclose how the detainees escaped but said that five of them have since been recaptured during a follow-up operation.
The recaptured detainees were identified as Arnold Olino, MJ Tauzon, Andal Jericho, Calayas Albert, Gian Carlo Rayala and Zilmar Adriano.
The three other detainees, Jefferson Bunso Tumbaga, Master Cedric Velasco, and John Joseph Laguna, are still being tracked down as of posting time, the police said.
The NCRPO said that based on initial investigation, the detainees escaped after dismantling the iron grill on the side of the detention facility.
