Makati city vies for International City Award

MANILA, Philippines — Makati city has qualified as a finalist in the City Award category of 2023 World Smart Cities Awards, Makati Mayor Abigail Binay said on Saturday.

“We are honored to be chosen among the top six finalists in the highly coveted City Award category of the 2023 World Smart Cities Awards,” Binay said.

“Being the only city from the Philippines and the Asia- Pacific Region to make the cut makes this achievement even more noteworthy,” she added.

Non-profit organization SmartCity Expo World Congress website based in London handed out the citation.

It said City Award is given to cities with a “global strategy combining innovation, collaboration, inclusion and sustainability initiatives.”

Aside from Makati, other cities vying for the award are Sunderland in United Kingdom, Cascais in Portugal, İzmir in Turkey, Curitiba in Brazil, and Barranquilla in Colombia.

The awarding ceremony will be held on November 8 at Fira Barcelona Gran Via in Spain.
