/ 06:39 AM May 01, 2012

The Mandaue City government is reviewing its contract on the operations of the Cebu North Bus Terminal in barangay Subangdaku in view of  the Capitol’s offer to manage the facility.

The Capitol offered to operate the terminal and pay off the Japan-funded loan whose payments by  Mandaue City will end in 2020.

The Capitol owns and manages the Cebu South Bus Terminal, which is among the top earning enterprises of the province.

Provincial Board (PB) Member Sun Shimura said since Mandaue City paid part of the loan, it will have a share in the revenues.

Shimura, who met with Capitol, Mandaue City and Cebu City officials and the cooperative managing the north bus terminal two weeks ago, said people were complaining about its services.

He said they want it operated as efficiently as the south bus terminal in Cebu City.

Mandaue City leased the terminal to the Cebu City government  which has a management contract with the bus cooperative until 2020.

Mayor Cortes said his administration will study the Capitol’s proposal.

He said  former Cebu City mayor and now Rep. Tomas Osmeña of Cebu City’s south district had wanted Mandaue City to eventually take over the management of the facility.

The mayor said he wants the City Council committee on economic enterprise to review the contract and the potential revenue to be earned by Mandaue if the Capitol takes over the CNBT.

Cebu City Administrator Jose Marie Poblete said last month’s  congestion during Holy Week in the terminal showed how much work is needed to improve its facilities and operation. /Fe Marie D. Dumaboc and Norman V. Mendoza, Correspondents
