BSKE winners plagued by disqualification cases jump to 101
MANILA, Philippines — The number of winning candidates in the barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections (BSKE) whose proclamations were suspended is so far at 101, said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday.
To recall, 253 candidates’ proclamations were suspended by the Comelec before the casting of votes itself due to petitions against their candidacies in the BSKE.
Comelec chairman George Garcia said that while 101 of the number won, 111 lost the elections.
“Ang problema na lang namin is doon sa 101 so far, habang kinakalap namin ‘yung datos sa buong Pilipinas,” said Garcia in a press conference.
(The only problem we have is with the 101 so far while we gather data all over the Philippines.)
To recall, on Oct. 24, the Comelec approved a resolution allowing the suspension of the proclamation of 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) winners with the following pending petitions:
- To deny due course or to cancel Certificate of Candidacy
- To declare a nuisance candidate
- For disqualification until further orders from the Commission
