Fire hits cargo vessel off Sorsogon
MANILA, Philippines (Updated) — A cargo vessel caught fire off Castilla town in Sorsogon on Thursday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
M/V Ken was anchored when the fire started in its mess hall around 11:00 a.m., the PCG said in its initial report.
Citing the Bureau of Fire Protection, the PCG said in its follow-up report that a fire out was declared around 3:02 pm.
All the ship’s eight crew on board are in good physical condition, according to authorities.
Article continues after this advertisementCoast Guard’s Marine Environmental Group inspected the area for possible traces of oil spill, which yielded a negative result.
Article continues after this advertisementM/V Ken carried 2,300 liters of diesel oil and approximately 400 liters of lube oil, according to the PCG.
