MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) told Filipinos to expect inclement weather because of a meteorological shear line, the northeast monsoon and a low pressure area (LPA) over the coastal waters of Dinapigue, Isabela.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said that the LPA, in combination with the shear line, is the reason behind the rainy skies in some parts of Luzon.

The shear line is where warm air from the Pacific Ocean meets the colder air from the northeast and causes heavy rains that might lead to floods or landslides.

Pagasa alerted residents of Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, Bulacan, Oriental Mindoro, and Marinduque to prepare for cloudy weather accompanied by intermittent rain and thunderstorms.

Over western Luzon, the northeast monsoon, or amihan, is expected to bring cold and rainy weather with weak to moderate rains. In Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and the rest of Central Luzon, expect cloudy skies with rain due to the northeast monsoon.

The rest of the Bicol Region and Mimaropa are forecast to have localized thunderstorms.

The rest of the country can expect a mix of partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in various areas, but some regions may experience localized thunderstorms.
