MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. visited his father and namesake, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) for All Saints’ Day.
The President was joined by his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and his sister Irene Marcos.
Supporters, sporting bright red shirts with Imelda Marcos’ face on it, could also be seen visiting Marcos Sr.’s grave.
To recall, Marcos Sr.’s burial in the LNMB was highly controversial in 2016. Former president Rodrigo Duterte greenlit the late dictator’s burial, sparking widespread condemnation.
The matter reached the Supreme Court (SC) after human rights groups and Martial Law survivors petitioned against the burial.
The SC, however, ruled that Marcos Sr. could stay in the LNMB as he fit the qualifications of being there as a former president.
