294 petitions for disqualification filed vs barangay, SK poll bets

Comelec eyes 75% voter turnout for BSKE

 

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Task Force Anti-Epal on Monday said that 294 petitions for disqualification have been filed against 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election candidates.

In a social media post, Comelec said that 223 petitions for disqualification were filed due to premature campaigning, while 71 petitions for disqualification were submitted for illegal campaigning.

“NOTE: The COMELEC filed Petitions for Disqualification against 19 candidates in violation of Premature Campaigning and 55 candidates in violation of Illegal Campaigning for a total of 74 petitions filed today, 30 October 2023,” it said.

The task force has the power to file complaints for disqualification and election offenses against those who will be proven to violate the Comelec-set election rules.
