LIBON, ALBAY – Police continued to monitor this town even after poll precincts were closed on Monday afternoon after residents cast their votes for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

The town was placed under the control of the Commission on Elections following the killing of village chief Alex Repato hours after he filed his certificate of candidacy on Aug. 28.

“Our security forces have been deployed, and rest assured they will be on guard during and after the casting of votes in order to secure the safety of the voting public,” Brig. Gen. Westrimundo Obinque, Bicol police chief, told the Inquirer.

He said the conduct of the elections here was peaceful, as there were no untoward incidents reported or recorded.
