MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday assured teachers who served as barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election officers  as poll workers for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) of medical and accident insurance coverage.

DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa made the announcement after it was reported that some teachers encountered accidents on their way to their assigned poll precincts.

“‘Yung mga ganito siguro gusto lang natin ipaalala sa mga teachers na actually dito sa Comelec (Commission on Elections) meron silang medical benefits na binibigay,” Poa told reporters in an ambush interview.

(We just want the teachers to know that they have medical benefits.)

“Aside from that, meron din tayong personal accident insurance coverage na binigay sa’ting mga teachers and other DepEd personnel kamakailan lang,” he added.

(Aside from that, we also have personal accident insurance coverage for our teachers and other DepEd personnel.)

Honoraria

Meanwhile, Poa said that the DepEd is also coordinating with Comelec to ensure that teachers will receive their honoraria as soon as possible.

“I think na-download na ‘yung pondo from DepEd, Naghihintay na lang ng reports from the teachers bago ma-release ang honoraria para sa kanila,” said Poa.

(I think the funds have been downloaded from DepEd, we are just waiting for reports from the teachers before the honoraria is released.)

Comelec has increased the honoraria for election officers for the barangay and SK elections.  to P9,000 and 10,000.
