No failure of elections in 2 Palawan precincts amid voting disruption

MANILA, Philippines —  No failure of elections was declared in two precincts in a school in Puerto Princesa city, Palawan.

The Department of Education (DepEd) released its initial report following the disruption of voting by a group during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Monday.

The suspects destroyed election ballots in two precincts in Puerto Princesa Pilot Elementary School.

DepEd makes it clear this outcome is just an initial report, and the decision on the voting process may still change.

No teacher was hurt in the incident.

“Thankfully, wala naman pong nasaktan sa mga teachers natin doon,” said DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa in a message sent to reporters.

(Thankfully, none of our teachers were hurt there.)

The department is still waiting for the official report from Schools Division Office of Puerto Princesa.

Commission on Elections Chair George Erwin Garcia earlier confirmed the disruption.

Some persons apparently entered the precincts and ripped the ballots, he had said.

The individuals involved were arrested and detained.
