Comelec chair Garcia votes in Cavite
MANILA, Philippines — Commission on Elections (Comelec) chair George Garcia cast his vote for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) in Indang, Cavite, on Monday.
Garcia voted early in the morning at the Banaba Cerca Integrated School.
The poll body head said that the candidates he chose were people he knew and grew up with.
“‘Yun ‘yung sinasabi natin, hindi nila kailangan ng campaign materials at mag-violate ng campaign rules. Sa mga barangay na ganito magkakakilala kami, alam namin sino iboboto,” Garcia told reporters in an ambush interview.
(That’s what we’re saying. They don’t need campaign materials and violate campaign rules. In barangays where we know each other, we know who to vote for.)
Garcia reminded registered voters to practice patience while in line at their respective polling places.
The Comelec appealed to registered voters to go to their precincts and cast their votes as early as possible to avoid long lines.
Registered voters may vote for the 2023 BSKE from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30.
One barangay captain and seven sangguniang barangay (barangay council) members should be filled in for the barangay election while one sangguniang kabataan (youth council) chairperson and seven SK members should be filled in for the SK election.
Registered voters aged 31 and above would be given a ballot for the barangay poll, while registered voters aged 18 to 30 would be given a ballot each for the barangay and SK polls. Registered voters aged 15 to 17 would be provided one ballot for the SK poll.
