LUCENA CITY — A 56-year-old van driver died early Sunday and 10 of his passengers were injured after their vehicle crashed into a parked backhoe in Agdangan town in Quezon province.
The Quezon police reported that the victim, identified as one alias “Alfredo” was driving a commuter van when he hit the backhoe that was left unattended along the road in Barangay (village) Sildora around 1:40 a.m.

The driver and his 10 passengers were injured and rushed to Unisan Community Medicare Hospital in the town center. But the driver died along the way.

The report did not specify if the parked heavy equipment had a reflectorized or early warning device to alarm approaching vehicles.
Police were conducting further investigations.
