MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested a woman who was caught distributing envelopes containing P300 to residents and voters in a warehouse in Barangay San Jose, Navotas City.
The woman, identified as Maribel Policarpio, as well as the voters were found to be from Malabon City.
In a report, Policarpio organized a meeting in a sardine building in Navotas City, where she distributed the envelopes.
Authorities also found in her possession the photocopies of identification cards of residents of Barangay Longos, documents of names, precincts, and other voters’ information, as well as the envelopes containing money.
Lawyer Gregorio Mendoza, who represented the Navotas City Commission on Elections (Comelec) Office, filed a complaint against Policarpio for violation of the Omnibus Election Code against vote-buying and vote-selling on Wednesday.
The Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office has issued a resolution which found probable cause to charge Policarpio for violation of the Omnibus Election Code. An information against her has already been filed at the Office of the Clerk of Court of the Navotas City Regional Trial Court.
