18 killed in van, truck collision in China

BEIJING – At least 18 people died when a van and truck collided on a road in northwest China\, state media reported on Monday.

Xinhua News Agency said eight other people were hurt in the crash Monday morning. The report said police did not give a cause of the crash.

It happened in Tongxin county in the northwest region of Ningxia.

According to Xinhua, poorly maintained roads and bad driving habits result in about 70,000 deaths and 300,000 injuries a year in China.
