MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City is planning to open more bicycle / bike lanes to accommodate more bikers and to encourage the public to use bicycles.
Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo said the city government is planning to have 350 kilometers of bicycle lanes from the present 171 kilometers.
“Kasabay ng paglawak ng mga bike lanes sa QC, kailangan ay dumami rin ang mga siklista. Kailangan nating magtulong-tulong upang patuloy na mapalawig at maprotektahan ang ating bike lanes,” Kimpo said during the “Katipunan Freedom Trail: Padyak Pabalik sa Kasaysayan” event on Sunday.
More than 2,000 concrete plant barriers will also be installed for the safety of the bikers.
Meanwhile, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said that biking will help promote environmental cleanliness in the city.
“By riding our bikes, we help to mitigate climate change, improve air quality, and reduce carbon emissions in the city,” Belmonte said.
