Persons with HIV hold annual gathering

THE Cebuplus Association Inc. (CPAI) held its annual gathering last April 15 at the Asilo De la Milagrosa on Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.

It was attended by members who are persons with human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV), medical partners, volunteers and other non-government organizations.

The event started with an inspirational message by Asilo administrator Sr. Letisha Derilo, who cited the importance of behavioral change to prevent the spread of HIV. She also said participation of the various sectors is needed to prevent the increase of HIV cases.

Dr. Ilya Tac-an, head of Cebu City Health Department, Dr. Chamberlain Agtuca from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Dr. Arlene Guttierez from Chong Hua Hospital were also present to support the advocacies of Cebuplus.

Persons with HIV also shared on how CPAI helped them cope  in life.

“Gitabangan ko sa Cebuplus sa pagpatambal (Cebuplus helped me with my medication),” said a 61-year old HIV-positive Tesing.

“Tulo na ko ka tuig nga positive ug gihulma ko sa CPAI isip usa katao (I have been HIV positive for three years already and CPAI helped me become a better person),” said another 26-year-old HIV positive.

During the gathering, the election of the new officers of the executive committee and the member of the board of trustees was conducted.

The members of the board of trustees are Jerson See, chairman; Reilyn Arradaza, vice chairman; Floyd Maldepeña, secretary; Redemtor Bataya, treasurer; Dr. Ilya Tac-an, Dr. Chamberlain Agtuca, Felonilla Enriquez, Jerwin See and Lyndon Francis Sinoy. /UP Masscom student Mary Josebelle H. Alusin
