Reporters to ‘man’ police stations

REPORTERS covering the police beat will get to know how it is like to be a police officer as the Police-Media Interaction Dale (Police-MIND) starts today.

After today’s flag raising ceremony at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) headquarters, a turn over ceremony will be held where reporters will act either as station commanders or special unit chiefs.

Police officials will still be at the police stations to serve as adviser and deputy of the reporters.

Police beat reporters will be deployed to the 12 police stations and special units such as Tourist Action Cneter (TAC), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Motor Riding Unit, Operation Branch, Cebu City Public Safety Company, Homicide Section, Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB), City Intelligence Branch (CIB) Theft and Robbery Section (TRS), Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) and Traffic Police.

Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, CCPO chief, said one of the goals of the project is to help the media “to know better our policemen and be more familiar with police activities and operations.”

Buenafe said the project will also promote harmonious relationship between the police and local tri-media which are major public service components of society that interacts on a very regular basis./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
