MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has approved increased coverage for high-risk pneumonia, ischemic storke, and hemorrhagic stroke.
“These are among the commonly availed cases by our kababayans,” Emmanuel Ledesma Jr., the president and CEO of the government medical insurance firm, said in his in a press conference on Wednesday.
Ledesma said the PhilHealth board recently approved the rationalization of rates of the those high-risk diseases.
“The circular is expected to be published within the month,” he added.

The increase in coverage of those diseases are as follows:
- high-risk pneumonia: from P32,000 to P90,100
- ischemic stroke: from P28,000 to P76,000
- hemorrhagic stroke: from P38,000 to P80,000
Ledesma said that PhilHealth also aims to release more benefits such as outpatient therapeutic care for severe acute malnutrition and the enhancement of Z benefits packages such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, and open-heart surgery for children.
