MANILA, Philippines — To curb the proliferation of online buying-selling scams, online shopping platform Lazada has started collaborating with stakeholders, government agencies, and brands to combat illicit trading.
In a statement issued on Monday, Lazada said it had adopted policies and measures, including algorithms and systems, and assigned dedicated teams that will “identify any listings that may be deemed as unlawful commerce listings.”
It also has a reporting mechanism for reviewing the concerns of both buyers and sellers and a brand infringement reporting channel called intellectual property protection, where rights owners can submit any suspected infringement and receive a response from Lazada.

“We recognize that the fight against counterfeits is ongoing, especially as malicious agents’ tactics evolve to evade enforcement. This is why we closely collaborate and forge productive partnerships with relevant stakeholders, such as brands, sellers, government agencies, and regulators, to identify and address issues in illicit trade and intellectual property protection,” Lazada said.
“We take AI-generated scanning and delisting actions to proactively identify and remove listings that violate our IP policies or infringe on the rights of others. We have always been proactively taking down prohibited listings and have reliable measures in place,” it added.
Aside from these, the e-commerce platform was the first in Southeast Asia to negotiate with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines in March 2021 to “establish stronger industry-wide coordination mechanism and a code of practice for online marketplaces.”
